So far, it has been about 9 years since I decided to study English again. By now we used some text books to study and to develop our skill. Text book that we used before is " Japanese Women Now 2 " , written by English Discussion Society , that was written by some teacher,manager,executive,etc. and all writers are women.

As usual, first, we read it and translate into Japanese and then discuss this article in English. Sometimes we use our own language. Maybe a lot?

Now we are reading " The Diary of A Young Girl " ANNE FRANK , translated into English by B.M.Mooyaart-Doubleday from this month. We are so surprised to know that Anne has so more sensitive heart than we thought before.

For example,

I expect you will be rather surprised at the fact that I should talk of boy friends at my age. Alas, one simply can't seem to avoid it at our school. As soon as a boy asks if he may bicycle home with me and we get into conversation, nine out of ten times I can be sure that he will fall head over heels in love immediately and simply won't allow me out of his sight. This is a letter to my friend in U.S.A.
Last winter, my younger daughter and I went Paris,Rome,and Greece (1997.12.17-12.26).
This trip was very nice ,and during this trip , I took a lot of photo about 200 piece. ...so many ! don't astonish me. In Paris, we had horrible experience . we walked in front of Tower of Eiffel , two men who sat with canvas , chair on road were approaching us, and said " We are art students ,and we want to draw you for our study , just free."
But after that they force us to pay so high price. " @ 500 Fran ? " "No ! I don't have so much money. " " @ 300 Fran ? " " No ! You said just draw ! "
After all , they watched in my purse , check it, and all money they took that I had. Do you think how much? Though they took all cash in my purse that I had, just 50 Fran. I had card and T.C , and little money just that time.
It help me and my young daughter, but it is so awful experience for us.

Fortunately, we won the tennis championship of consolation in Nara city -club match. It was terrible hot day, so each of them (6 members of female) have got a good tan .

It has been terrible rain days in Japan. Also an unbelievable incident occurred (The boy was arrested on suspicion of killing 11-year-old boy.) and all people in Japan discuss it on T.V and everywhere. Incidentally, my elder daughter planning to go to Italy this summer. This is nice story in my home. She will stay there about a month and study about language or something in school ( by a scholarship student). Now, she try to reserve some rooms at hotel on telephone. I hope she will get big experience and good memory.

Have you ever thought how many times we tell lies a day? According to the experiment by an American psychologist, we tell a lie once in 9 minutes, totally about 200 times a day. Sunday telegraph reported that professor J.J recorded the daily conversations of 20 people and analyzed the contents. He found that a person whose job has many opportunities to meet customers such as store clerk, doctor, receptionist, politician, lawyer or journalist tell lies frequently. The typical one is " I'm sorry to bother you " even though he doesn't think so, or " Sorry for being late because I was caught in traffic jam and so on. I find an interesting article at Daily Yomiuri. When Juliet Carpenter began translating Machi Tawara's Sarada Kinenbi into English, she realized it would be impossible to adhere to the strict 5-7-5-7-7 syllabic pattern of traditional tanka.

It's enough to be your lover / sings someone in a song, / making it sound so easy

This poem addresses the complicated feelings of a woman at the end of a relationship. The poet expresses her sentiments candidly and objectively. Many readers of Salad Anniversary may look at it as a diary in verse. This would be a mistake.The poems are works of art, not descriptions of Tawara's experiences.
I've often heard that many foreigners try to make Tanka. But translating Japanese into English or English into Japanese are very difficult because of their style of life or own history, I think.

Today is the first day of use " tel-HODAI"system for me. one of my email friends said that it's good to use it at early morning.

In Japan, telephone charges are very expensive. we pay about 200EN one hour. (just telephone charges) We also pay the provider company. So many people think about how to connect more cheaply. Maniac who take some service ( fixed telephone charge like -1800EN, from 23:00 to 8:00, you can telephone only 2 numbers freely a month...etc ) connect a lot. During these times it is difficult to connect.

It's getting warmer and warmer these days. In Nara, we have many "sakura festival" around there. But it's too late good time to see it except " Zouheikyuku - tourinuke". Well,I have been to Osaka castle to see cherry blossoms last month.It's so crowded that we can't walk easily. Also we saw endless line in front of castle.

I had practice to playing tennis for a tournament match these days.This game is over (Apr.13 1997) and unfortunately I lost the game thanks to my another interests. Yes that right,thanks to my computer.

This week,3.28-3.31, I had nice experience that because my friends to stay my home who come from Sweden.They speak English,Swedish,and she speaks more..5 languages. Sometimes, when they speak Swedish I confused ....My elder daughter is learning Italy..so she speaks Italian to her...Last year, I had been Hongkong with my younger daughter ,while on rope way to up mountain just 5 or 10 minutes we talked that we met first.They stayed 3 nights and 4 days . We,yes, all family had good experience to communicate each other, and get know people who gentle-hearted and have spirit. Heart to heart is the best way to communicate each other that we learned.
